How much does a syndicated columnist make?

Been googling it, no articles have solid numbers.

how much does a freelance writer make if he/she writes two columns a week? typically speaking...ranging from local papers to big papers like the new york times.

also, is the san francisco chronicle considered a big paper? thats the closest big city and im unsure if its as big as the chicago tribune or the new york times and such.

The SF Chronic is a big league newspaper once the pint home to Hunter Thompson. Washington Post columnist like George Will or New York Times columnist Paul Krugman or Maureen Dowd earn over a $100.000 a year simply because they are recognizable talent like Hunter Thompson. Krugman, however earns extra money as a Princeton University economics professor. Dowd grew up in DC., Thompson was a gifted writer, and George Will is simply just full of himself. How much does a syndicated columnist make?
Depends on their status. Tom Friedman and Maureen Dowd due to their name recognition might make a mil a year.
