Why does my DVR consider syndicated shows as new?

I have a comcast DVR, and I find it frustrating when I set up a series recording of a currently active show, and older syndicated reruns get recorded as well. Can anybody explain why they don't mark syndicated shows as re-runs in the DVR programming? Also, if you have TiVo or any other DVR, does it also have the same problem?Why does my DVR consider syndicated shows as new?
I have a dishnetwork dvr and I have the same problem. A way you can resolve the issue on your own is set your dvr to record a show weekly (i.e. The Office, Thursdays at 9pm) if you know that's when the new shows will air.Why does my DVR consider syndicated shows as new?

(tivo) when you set the recordings in the 'season pass' you have to make sure you select 'first run only' for it to record only new shows
The problem is in the guide information. I have the same issue with my Comcast DVR. My wife's TiVo gets it right because, unlike Comcast, TiVo puts some effort into getting their guide right. All you can do is complain to Comcast and hope they care enough to report the issues to TV Guide or whoever supplies their guide info.
