I thought a syndicated show was a show that didn't air on any specific network (CBS, NBC or ABC).
So how come Katie Couric's show can potentially replace GH? Can anybody help me with that?If Katie Couric new show will be a syndicated show, how come it will replace General Hospital?
You're right, a syndicated show does not air on any specific network but a network can purchase the rights to air the show. That's what syndication is, the selling of the rights to broadcast a show to multiple individual stations. If Katie Couric new show will be a syndicated show, how come it will replace General Hospital?
The local affiliated stations aren't obligated to air everything their network offers. The stations owned by ABC (NYC, LA, Philly and a few other big markets) almost always carry the complete network lineups. But all stations already run syndicated shows on weekends, overnight and in the 7pm-8pm hour (like Jeopardy!).
And those independently owned stations have to do what's best for them. If the ABC show gets bad ratings and hurts their ad profits, or if a syndicated program will pay the station money for a good time slot, they have to take the best deal.
Check, though: Your local station may be airing GH in a late-night slot. Not so good for the show, or fans without VCR/DVR, but better than nothing. If Katie Couric new show will be a syndicated show, how come it will replace General Hospital?
Katie's show is definitely syndicated, but will not necessarily replace GH.

It will not be a syndicated show, it will be on ABC only..GH will be moved to another time slot and then her show will be on then..don't worry GH is still going to be on..=)
